			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I bought a Sony DSC-TX5 camera just 1.5 months ago.  Everything was fine until I forgot to remove the battery from the charger for whole day. The camera gives &#8220;For Use with Compatible Battery Only&#8221; message every time I turn it on and it automatically off in few minutes. The battery is actually original and comes with the camera.</p>
<p>I googled the error message and find that I&#8217;m not the only customer facing this issue. And lucky that I found solution that work <a href="http://www.fixya.com/support/t364540-sony_dsc_w80_message_use_compatible" target="_blank">here</a> &#8211; solution #2. Below is my detailed procedure to fix the battery.</p>
<p>Disclaimer:</p>
<p>Dengan mengikuti prosedur di bawah ini, Anda menyadari bahwa Anda mengerti resiko kerusakan dan bertanggung jawab sepenuhnya. Anda juga tidak akan menyalahkan penulis jika terjadi kerusakan pada peralatan Anda.</p>
<ol>
<li>Pergi ke Sony Center terdekat, pastikan bahwa masalahnya karena batere bukan karena kamera itu sendiri. Caranya, ceritakan masalahnya ke customer service dan pinjam batere mereka.<br />
Jika masalahnya ternyata di kamera, tinggal tunjukkan kartu garansi dan titipkan kameranya ke Sony Service.<br />
Jika masalahnya ternyata di batere dan Anda berkeberatan mengeluarkan IDR 400ribu untuk batere yang baru, lanjutkan ke langkah ke-2.</li>
<li> Persiapkan kabel, multimeter dan charger kamera.</li>
<li>Cek tegangan dengan multimeter, Pin + dengan -, dan pin C dengan -. Seharusnya nilainya sekitar 4.7V  dan 3.7V.</li>
<li> Kabel digunakan untuk men-short-circuit 3 pin yang ada di batere Sony. Jadi buat bercabang 3, cocokan jarak masing-masing cabang dengan pin di batere Sony.</li>
<li>Short ketiga pin di batere Sony selama 3 detik. Bila tidak ada jam, bisa sambil bernyanyi &#8220;balonku ada lima&#8221; sampai bait kedua.</li>
<li>Cek kedua tegangan kembali, seharusnya nilainya nol komaan. Catat. Pada kasus saya, +&amp;- jadi 0.41V dan c&amp;- jadi 0.21V</li>
<li>Biarkan selama beberapa jam &#8211; tidak jelas, saya biarkan semalaman. Paginya saya cek, ada perubahan tegangan +&amp;- jadi 0.13V dan c&amp;- jadi 0.91V. Saya sendiri tidak mengerti mekanisme apa yang terjadi di batere tersebut semalaman.</li>
<li>Charge kembali batere tersebut dan siap dicoba.</li>
</ol>
<p>Catatan: Saya mencoba prosedur di atas 3 kali, pada dua kali pertama setelah dishort langsung di charge dan error messagenya masih muncul.</p>

<p><span style="text-decoration:underline;">Kekuatan atau Kelemahan?</span></p>

<p>Kadang kelemahan kita bisa menjadi kekuatan terbesar kita. Ambil contoh kisah seorang bocah 10 tahun yang memutuskan untuk mempelajari judo walaupun ia telah kehilangan lengan kirinya dalam sebuah kecelakaan mobil.</p>
<p>Sang bocah belajar dari seorang guru judo Jepang. Bocah ini benar-benar belajar dengan baik, sehingga ia sendiri tidak paham, kenapa setelah tiga bulan latihan, sang guru hanya mengajarkannya satu gerakan.</p>
<p>“Sensei,” akhirnya sang bocah bertanya, “Bukankah saya seharusnya sudah belajar gerakan lainnya?”</p>
<p>“Ini adalah satu-satunya gerakan yang kamu tahu, tapi ini juga satu-satunya gerakan yang perlu kamu ketahui” jawab sang Sensei.</p>
<p>Walau tidak begitu memahami, tapi tetap percaya pada gurunya, bocah ini tetap berlatih dan berlatih.  Beberapa bulan kemudian, sang sensei mengantarkan sang bocah ke turnamen pertamanya. Terkejut pada kemampuannya sendiri, sang bocah dengan mudah memenangkan dua pertarungan pertamanya. Pertarungan ketiga lebih sulit, tapi setelah beberapa saat, lawannya kehilangan kesabaran dan menyerang, sang bocah dengan piawai menggunakan satu gerakannya untuk memenangkan pertarungan. Masih heran dengan kemenangannya, sang bocah masuk final.</p>
<p>Kali ini, lawannya lebih besar, lebih kuat, dan lebih berpengalaman. Untuk beberapa saat sang bocah terlihat tidak sepadan dibanding lawannya. Karena kuatir sang bocah bisa cedera, wasit menyerukan time-out. Ia bermaksud menghentikan pertarungan saat sang sensei menginterupsinya.</p>
<p>“Tidak,” interupsi sang sensei,”Biarkan ia melanjutkan.”  Segera setelah pertarungan dilanjutkan, lawannya membuat kesalahan kritikal: ia lalai dalam pertahanannya. Secara cepat sang bocah menggunakan satu gerakan untuk menguncinya. Sang bocah memenangkan pertarungan dan kejuaraan. Ialah sang juaranya.</p>
<p>Dalam perjalanan kembali ke rumah, sang bocah dan senseinya mempelajari kembali setiap gerakan di pertarungan hari itu. Lalu sang bocah berani menanyakan yang terus dipikirkannya.  “Sensei, bagaimana saya bisa memenangkan kejuaraan hanya dengan satu gerakan?”  “Kamu menang karena dua alasan!” jawab sang sensei. “Pertama, kamu hampir memahiri salah satu bantingan tersulit dari semua gerakan di judo. Kedua, satu-satunya pertahanan yang telah diketahui terhadap gerakan itu adalah jika lawan kamu menangkap lengan kiri kamu”</p>
<p>Kelemahan sang bocah telah menjadi kekuatan terbesarnya.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Few weeks back, I was requested to assist offshore ESD/PSD performance test to make sure that process can be brought to its specified safety state within specified time. One of the major concerns that we need to face is platform inter-trips where one platform sending trip signals to another remote platform.</p>
<p>Why do we need platforms inter-trips anyway?<br />
My memory goes back to piper alpha every time I think about this. Based on the event aftermath on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Piper_Alpha, “<em>Another contributing factor was that the nearby connected platforms Tartan and Claymore continued to pump gas and oil to Piper Alpha until its pipeline ruptured in the heat in the second explosion</em>”. Both platforms continued its production since there was no automated function to stop the platform when other platforms in trouble and operators were afraid they will be blamed if they lost the production.</p>
<p>How do we do this then?<br />
Sending hardwired IO may not be an option due to distance between platforms, but, can we use data communication?<br />
There is one thumb rule I received from the seniors that &#8220;data communication can&#8217;t be used for safety purpose&#8221;. Well, if we put &#8220;SIL 3 Data Communication&#8221; on google and we can get list of safety data communication products available on the market. Still, we need to make sure that both data protocol and media architecture are per SIL 3 requirement.</p>
<p>Data communication we use is Honeywell SM-SM SafeNet.</p>
<p>One of the differences between safety dan non-safe data communication is its failsafe feature.<br />
If non-safe modbus used, it will hold last known good data value upon communication lost, thus, process will not be brought to its safe state when the real event occurs (fail to dangerous). If safe data communication used, process will be brought to its safe state upon communication lost. The bad news is yes, we will have another nuisance trip.</p>

<p><em>Parsing</em> merupakan metode untuk melakukannya secara otomatis. Banyak bahasa yang menyediakan library untuk <em>parsing</em> suatu halaman web. Kali ini saya coba dengan menggunakan python karena kepraktisannya. Hasilnya kurang lebih seperti script di bawah.</p>

<p>Terlalu malas untuk mengkonversi langsung ke excel, fungsi <em>piping</em> sudah cukup. File CSV, kemudian, dapat dibuka di excel dan diolah sesuai kebutuhan.</p>

Beni also informed me that the location will be different than usual (2nd and 6th Barelang bridges &#8211; never tried to fish there anyway) and the fishing boat will be bigger. The keyword &#8220;ship will be bigger&#8221; calms down my wife who saw previous fishing pictures on small and frail fishing boat, at least it is better during rain and we can do shalat on the boat.</p>

<p>The journey were started from Punggur/Kabil, about half hour travel by car from Batam Center and we were planning to fish near lagoi and some areas between Batam and Bintan. I have to admit that Beni, as fishing manager, already prepared everything started from fishing tackles, nasi padangs, mineral water and indomie for his 10 patients (that is how he calls us) very well.</p>

<p>One moment of history is when I finally catched my first fish. The fish was too cute not even longer than 20cm so I can&#8217;t find liable photo of it to be displayed here yet. Anyway, this is our biggest catch (actually, it is Pak Rudi&#8217;s) after 20 hours at the sea.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Why do we need line monitoring?</p>
<p>Let&#8217;s take common example of line monitoring, deluge valve. Deluge valve is part of fire suppression or F&amp;G system which is the 3rd layer of plant protection. Consider safety and availability:</p>
<ul>
<li>Failsafe signal to the field<br />
In case of spurious trip due to line fault, deluge valve shall be open even thought there is no fire and will drain the fire water system. What happen if real fire come afterward?</li>
<li>Non-Failsafe signal to the field<br />
It won&#8217;t drain the fire water system due to line fault but it is fail-to-dangerous since deluge valve will not receive &#8220;activate&#8221; signal even thought there is real fire.</li>
</ul>
<p>Based on consideration above, deluge valve requires both availability and safety. Line monitoring is one alternative for this application. If we use line monitoring, alarm will be sent to operator in case of line fault instead of directly open the deluge valve and fire water will still be available. Operator, then, should directly fix the fault.</p>
<p>High in-Rush Current?</p>
<p>This is common problem for actuator signal from PLC. The actuator requires 2A but the PLC can only provide 1A maximum. For common DO, relay can be used but for line-monitoring DO, relay on marshalling means lost the line monitoring function.</p>
<p>Below drawing shows the concept of high in-rush implementation (credit to Honeywell Engineers on Kerisi Project). 2 DO (at least one line-monitoring) and 1 supply were used in this implementation.</p>
<p>During normal condition (de-energize), line monitoring DO will monitor the connection to the actuator and 24VDC supply availability. If the supply lost or the R2 relay fault, the line will be open, thus, alarm shall be created by the line monitoring. Same case will happen if connection to the actuator disconnected on the field side.</p>
<p>During activate condition (ON/OFF Logic DO energize), R1 relay will switch the connection to 24VDC to drive the actuator. Line monitoring DO connection was switched to resistor to prevent line monitoring alarm.</p>

The proximity switches part number is <a href="http://www.pepperl-fuchs.com/selector/navi/productInfo/edb/106645_eng.pdf" target="_blank">NJ5-18GK</a> and the barrier is <a href="http://www.mtl-inst.com//images/uploads/datasheets/4000/MTL4016.pdf" target="_blank">MTL 4016</a>.</p>
<p>We have 4 cylinders (2 main and 2 backup) and each has 1 proximity switch. Cylinder pressure low sensing is done mechanically based on mass of the cylinder. If the cylinder mass higher than set point, metal plate will be nearer to the proximity probe and vice versa.<br />
The proximity switches, then, are connected in series (and tried in parallel) to the IS barrier and, it is where the problem lies. Indication of the switches can not be read by the control system. Below note is based on my study when trying to solve the problem.</p>
<p>Why intrinsically safe?</p>
<p>The cylinders are located at hazardous environment where explosive gasses present on the environment. Intrinsically safe prevents sparks or heat that maybe generated during normal or fail condition by low voltage (8V, instead of common 24V) and methods used.</p>
<p>Why proximity switch?</p>
<p>Proximity switch which, in my case, is an inductive sensor works by generating electromagnetic field in front of its coil and if the metal plate is within the field (no contact required), it affects the load and changes its voltage.<br />
Based on datasheet (links above), the voltage is then changed to &lt;1mA (metal not detected) or &gt;3mA (metal detected), same standard with the IS barrier.</p>
<p>In my opinion, proximity switch is used due to no contact required, which means less possibility of sparks.</p>
<p>Based on its work principle, the proximity switch can not be treated as common switch.</p>
<p>Why series or parallel?</p>
<p>I didn’t get satisfying answer but it may due to saving IOs and field wirings. This is lesson learnt for engineering.</p>
<p>Reading between proximity switches and IS barrier is based on its current, thus, putting proximity switches in series or parallel will affect its current and can cause incorrect reading. Also, as per the datasheet, the proximity switch requires 8V to work, thus, putting proximity switches in series means each will only get 2V.</p>
<p>In my opinion, the proximity switch should be connected one-to-one to the IS barrier. I checked with P&amp;F and MTL and they confirm that it has to be connected one-to-one but unfortunately there is no manual clearly mention about this to prevent mislead information of “switch” terminology usage.</p>
<p>My suggestion to customer was to connect the switch and IS barrier one-to-one. It was approved but only 2 switches connected, each for main cylinders and backup cylinders.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Dalam <em>process safety</em> didefinisikan lapisan-lapisan proteksi. Lapisan paling dalam adalah <em>Basic Process Control System (BPCS)</em> berupa <em>DCS</em>, alarm proses dan respon operator, dan desain proses itu sendiri. Ketika proses sudah tidak terkontrol, lapisan selanjutnya mengambil alih agar proses menuju <em>safe state</em> dengan, misalkan, menutup <em>shutdown valve</em> (SDV) inlet atau membuka <em>blowdown valve</em> (BDV). Lapisan ini disebut <em>Process Shutdown</em> (PSD).<br />
Lapisan selanjutnya adalah <em>Fire and Gas </em>(F&amp;G) yang bertugas mengaktifkan <em>fire water</em> bahkan mematikan seluruh proses.</p>
<p>Ketika mendesain sistem <em>safety</em>, ada dua hal yang kadang berlawanan harus dipertimbangkan, yaitu <em>availability </em>dan <em>safety</em>. Ketika <em>safety</em> diutamakan, proses <em>shutdown</em> dapat terjadi karena gangguan sistem atau <em>transmitter</em> (<em>spurious trip</em>). Sebaliknya ketika <em>availability</em> diutamakan, proses dapat semakin tidak terkendali dan bahaya fatal dapat terjadi.</p>
<p>Contoh <em>availability</em> adalah <em>voting</em> 2oo2 (<em>two out of two</em>), untuk memastikan terjadinya bahaya setidaknya dua <em>transmitter</em> harus melaporkan kondisi yang sama. Masalah akan terjadi bila salah satu <em>transmitter</em> mengalami kerusakan (<em>fail) </em>akan mengakibatkan kondisi <em>fail to dangerous</em> karena kondisi 2oo2 tidak akan pernah tercapai. Contoh <em>safety</em> adalah <em>voting</em> 1oo2 dan kondisi <em>fail</em> pun diperlakukan sebagai bahaya sehingga ketika satu pun <em>transmitter fail</em> proses akan dibawa menuju <em>safe state/shutdown</em> (<em>failsafe)</em>.</p>
<p><em>Failsafe</em> merupakan kondisi ketika suatu perangkat atau fungsi mengalami kegagalan, maka perangkat atau fungsi tersebut akan merespon sedemikian rupa sehingga kecelakaan atau bahaya yang lebih besar dapat dihindari (<em>safe state</em>).<br />
Berikut contoh <em>failsafe </em>yang biasa ditemukan di industri proses:<br />
o FO/FC <em>valve</em>, SDV/BDV; ketika suplai <em>pneumatic</em> hilang (<em>fail</em>), <em>valve-valve</em> tersebut akan menuju menutup atau membuka agar proses <em>shutdown</em>.<br />
o Sinyal <em>Failsafe </em>dari <em>safety </em>PLC ke aktuator lapangan; tegangan elektronik dikirimkan pada kondisi normal, dan aktuator akan menuju kondisi <em>safe</em>-nya jika tegangan hilang walaupun diakibatkan oleh kabel terputus.<br />
o <em>Safety</em> PLC akan membawa proses ke <em>safe state</em>-nya andaikan terdapat kegagalan pada sistem yang mengurangi integritas dari PLC tersebut.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Beberapa waktu lalu akhirnya saya membeli kembali USB thumbdrive setelah sempat kapok karena 2 kali kehilangan.</p>
<p>Pertama kali yang kepikiran adalah menginstall operating system di USB. Dari pengalaman sebelumnya operating system cadangan akan sangat berguna bila ada masalah dengan operating system di harddisk PC/laptop karena trojan ataupun masalah lain. Alasan kenapa saya tidak mengkonfigur dual boot saja adalah karena laptop yang saya gunakan saat ini merupakan milik kantor.</p>
<p>Berdasarkan googling, rata-rata Live USB (ini istilah USB dengan OS) menggunakan dasar yang sama dengan Live CD, yaitu PE, Slax dan Knoppix. Salah satu referensi yang menarik <a href="http://darksun.com.pt/mirage/usb_minipe_backtrack_knoppix.html">http://darksun.com.pt/mirage/usb_minipe_backtrack_knoppix.html</a> menjelaskan bagaimana tiga operating system dengan dasar yang berbeda dipadukan disatu USB.<br />
Masalah yang saya temukan ketika mengikuti referensi di atas adalah PeToUSB sayangnya hanya mendukung USB hingga 4G padahal saat ini 16G pun sudah banyak di pasaran. Selain itu multipartisi USB tidak disupport Windows dan hanya drive pertama yang dimunculkan di explorer.</p>
<p>Saya mengambil keputusan 1 operating system sudah cukuplah. Pertama saya mencoba Ubuntu 8.10 berdasarkan referensi <a href="http://www.pendrivelinux.com/ubuntu-810-persistent-flash-drive-install-from-live-cd/">http://www.pendrivelinux.com/ubuntu-810-persistent-flash-drive-install-from-live-cd/</a>. Dari semenjak kuliah, saya sangat menyukai tampilan Gnome dan Ubuntu mengimplementasikan Gnome dengan sangat baik. Sayangnya ini harus dibayar mahal dengan booting yang lambat dan space yang besar (+/- 2G) termasuk untuk partisi <em>persistent</em> casper-rw.</p>
<p>Akhirnya saya mencoba <a href="http://www.slax.org" target="_blank">Slax</a>. Ukurannya hanya 190M dengan installasi yang sangat mudah (referensi <a href="http://warungbaca.wordpress.com/2009/04/13/membuat-slax-live-usb/">http://warungbaca.wordpress.com/2009/04/13/membuat-slax-live-usb/</a>). Bootingnya pun cepat sehingga lebih masuk akal digunakan sebagai operating system cadangan disaat genting. Hal lain yang saya sukai dari Slax adalah sifat modularnya, hanya dengan menambah module lzm ke directory slax/modules, aplikasi baru dapat langsung digunakan. <br />
Lzm sendiri sangat praktis digunakan dengan andaikan kita ingin membuat modul baru dengan tool lzm2dir dan dir2lzm. </p>
<p>Ok, sementara saya putuskan untuk menetap dengan slax.</p>
<p>Catatan:<br />
o BackTrax merupakan turunan dari Slax dengan tambahan aplikasi untuk penetrasi dan sekuriti juga menarik<br />
o Ubuntu 9.04 konon bisa diinstall langsung ke USB melalui Live CD dan lebih cepat dari Ubuntu 8.10</p>
